The short version: this site is a news aggregator. It is not a newspaper and not a newsroom. Nobody here reports stories, attends city council meetings, or interviews sources. The headlines on the front page come from Google News and link directly to the outlets that actually did the work.

What This Site Is

The Rapid City Gazette is a one-page briefing for Rapid City, Black Hills, and South Dakota news. It pulls live headlines from Google News, shows the Rapid City forecast from the National Weather Service, and maintains a directory of the region's real newsrooms and official information sources. The goal is simple: one bookmark that gets you to today's local news fast, with full credit flowing to the original publishers.

What This Site Is Not

We publish no original reporting. Every headline links out to its source.
We have no reporters, editors, or newsroom staff.
We are not affiliated with the Rapid City Journal, KOTA, NewsCenter1, KELOLAND, or any outlet we link to.
We never write, summarize, or paraphrase news stories ourselves — headlines display exactly as the publishers and Google News provide them.

Who Runs It

The Gazette is independently operated by Adam Stratmeyer, a South Dakota resident. It is a solo-maintained utility site, not a media company.

How It Makes Money

The site is funded through Google AdSense display advertising, occasional affiliate links (Amazon Associates identifier ais3000-20), and voluntary reader support via the PayPal button on the front page. Advertising has no influence over which headlines appear — headline selection is automated through Google News queries for the region.

Corrections & Removal

Because headlines come from Google News, an error in a headline belongs to the original publisher — contact them to correct the record. If you believe this site itself is displaying something it shouldn't, or you are a publisher who wants your outlet excluded from our directory, email info@rapidcitygazette.com and it will be handled promptly.

A Note on the Name

"Gazette" is used here in the old sense of a bulletin board — a place where notices are gathered. If you're looking for the region's actual newspaper of record, that's the Rapid City Journal, and it deserves your subscription.
